![]() It ran us about 150 bucks including drinks and seemed well worth it to us. I will definitely be back on my next visit to MB and would highly recommend this establishment if you want an elegant meal. In my opinion this was the best of the sit down restaurants we dined at during our stay. We enjoyed our meals and had a great overall dining experience. I think the biggest I ever had for twin tails. Those were two nice sized lobster tails I got. The service and atmosphere are great along with the food. As far as our entrees went we were all more than satisfied. We had mixed feelings about it, but it wasnt for me. ![]() The lobster bites reminded me of a carnival funnel cake with lobster bits in it. We also ordered the fried lobster bites as an appetizer as I am a lobster freak and can't get enough of it. I got the 2 lobster tails, my wife had the filet mignon, and my son had the open faced chicken sandwich. We called a couple of hours prior to our visit so there was no wait at all. No complaints here. We stopped at the bar, got a drink, then headed to the lawn. They have a bar/patio area in the sunroom on the back of the house and a large lawn area that overlooks the ocean. Our wait time was estimated to be 45 minutes. There were a few groups of people milling about at the front of the place so we figured we’d have to wait for a table. My husband and I had eaten there only once before for breakfast so this was a virgin dinner experience for us. Nestled on a little section of beachfront property amongst high rise buildings, the Sea Captain’s house is a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of its surroundings.ĭuring peak vacation season, Sea Captain’s House stays busy. In the early 1960’s, Sea Captain’s House was transformed to a full-time restaurant and still stands as a popular dining destination today. Through the years it has changed hands several times, transitioned from a home to a guesthouse and endured several hurricanes. The Sea Captain’s House is a Myrtle Beach landmark that has stood since 1930 when it was built as an oceanfront vacation home for the Taylor family of High Point, North Carolina. But what I like about the interior of Akel’s is the collection of photos of old Myrtle Beach and its changes through the years in addition to the autographed photos by celebrities such as Mike Ditka, Jerry Reed and Arnold Palmer (among many famous golfers.) But hey, it’s not about the décor, it’s about the food. The interior of the place is a little dated, but I’ve eaten at many pancake houses along the Grand Strand and I don’t remember a single one that would get any interior design awards. ![]() The front of the building states that Akel’s has been “a beach favorite since 1975” so they must be doing something right. Since it doesn’t have the words “pancake” or “breakfast” in its name, some tourists may not even consider stopping there. Akel’s is a “family restaurant” serving breakfast and lunch and is also a favorite among the locals. It’s the second closest breakfast joint to our place, and we didn’t like the one that was closer. My husband and I discovered Akel’s a few years ago when we first bought our condo at Myrtle Beach. It was just across the road, there was a coupon for a free appetizer and I was starving. The pro shop employee casually told me the place was pretty good and that his friend worked there. After I prematurely quit a golf game at Wicked Stick Golf Course (don’t ask!) and was waiting on my husband to finish the last two holes on a balmy spring evening, I was strolling around the clubhouse when I picked up a Xerox copy of a menu for Black River Grill. What the heck was that, you’re wondering? Well, it’s just me expressing my love of a recent discovery in Myrtle Beach, Black River Grill. I hope to see you many, many times in the future so that we may continue this amazing journey. Our love affair has been short, but so deep. You are a rose among thorns, a diamond in the rough and well, just perfect. My darling, where have you been all my life? Ever since the day we first met last spring, you have been on my mind.
